Parking in the Bishop Arts District works best when you skip the hunt on Bishop Avenue and head for a garage. For Lunami at 101 W. Davis St, use the public garage in the Vance at Bishop Union building, entered from N. Beckley Ave. Street parking exists on W. Davis St and the side streets, and the Dallas Streetcar runs daily from downtown to the Bishop Arts stop at Zang and Davis.
The one thing that can sour a Bishop Arts evening before it starts is the drive down Bishop Avenue at 7 PM on a Saturday, watching every curb space fill while the car behind you taps its horn. It is a small district with narrow streets and more restaurants than it had ten years ago, and the parking did not grow at the same pace. The good news is that the district has garages, a streetcar and plenty of side streets, so the stress is mostly a matter of knowing where to go before you arrive.
This guide is written from Lunami’s corner of the neighborhood at Davis and Beckley, but the approach works for the whole district.
The Fastest Option: The Garage on N. Beckley Ave
Lunami sits on the ground floor of the Vance at Bishop Union building at the corner of W. Davis St and N. Beckley Ave. The building has a public parking garage, and its entrance is on N. Beckley, around the corner from the restaurant’s front door on Davis.
- From W. Davis St, turn onto N. Beckley Ave.
- The garage entrance is on your right, a short distance up Beckley.
- Park on any public level, then walk back out to W. Davis St.
- Lunami’s door is on the Davis Street side at the Beckley corner end of the building.
The Where to Park section on the Visit page has a block diagram that shows the garage entrance and the restaurant door, which helps the first time, since the two are on different streets. On busy nights this garage is the difference between sitting down on time and circling for twenty minutes.
Street Parking on W. Davis St and the Side Streets
When the garage is full or you are only stopping for a drink at the bar, street parking along W. Davis St and the residential side streets north and south of it is the fallback. A few things to know:
- Read the signs on each block. Some stretches are metered, some are time-limited, and some residential blocks are permit-only in the evening. The rules change from one block to the next, so check the post before you walk away.
- Weeknights are easy, weekends are not. Tuesday through Thursday you will usually find a spot within a block or two. Friday and Saturday after 6 PM, plan on the garage.
- Do not block driveways or alley mouths. The side streets are residential, and the neighborhood tows.
Rule of thumb for Bishop Arts: if it is after 6 PM on a Friday or Saturday, drive straight to a garage. The ten minutes you think you will save on the street are the ten minutes you will spend looking.
Take the Dallas Streetcar Instead
If you are coming from downtown, Deep Ellum, Uptown or anywhere near Union Station, the easiest parking in Bishop Arts is none at all. The Dallas Streetcar, run by DART, connects Union Station downtown to the Bishop Arts District, with the Bishop Arts stop at Zang Blvd and Davis St, a short block from Lunami’s door. It runs daily, and the fare is a standard DART local fare rather than free, so check the current price on DART’s fares page before you ride. Park once downtown, or ride DART rail to Union Station, and let the streetcar do the last leg.
A Quick Comparison
| Option | Best for | Walk to Lunami | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vance at Bishop Union garage (N. Beckley Ave) | Dinner, weekends, groups | Around the corner | Entrance is on Beckley, not Davis |
| Street parking, W. Davis St | Weeknights, quick visits | Steps | Meters and time limits vary by block |
| Residential side streets | Overflow on weeknights | 1 to 3 blocks | Permit-only blocks, driveways |
| Dallas Streetcar from Union Station | Coming from downtown, date nights with drinks | 1 block from the Zang and Davis stop | Not free; check DART fares and hours |
| Rideshare drop-off | Busy nights | At the door | Ask the driver to stop on W. Davis St, not Beckley |
If You Are Coming for Brunch
Brunch at Lunami runs Wednesday through Sunday from 11 AM to 2 PM, and late morning is the easiest time of the week to park in the district. The garage is rarely full before noon, and street parking on Davis opens up as the overnight crowd clears. Sunday around 12:30 is the one brunch window that gets tight, so the garage still wins.
Reservations and Parking Go Together
Nothing about parking in Bishop Arts is hard once you know the layout. Decide before you leave the house whether you are driving to the garage, trying your luck on Davis, or taking the streetcar, and the evening starts the way it should. If you have a table booked, give yourself ten extra minutes on a weekend, walk in through the Davis Street door, and you are done with the only stressful part of the night. The menu handles the rest.
